Trends and Patterns of Temporal Tourism Growth in Ladakh Region, India

The Ladakh region is known worldwide for tourism activities due to its special mountainous landscape. Summer is the peak season for tourism, while winter is the lowest season in terms of tourist arrivals in the region. This research based study deals with the growth trends of tourism in Ladakh in the first two decades of the current century. The number of domestic tourists, usually lower than that of international tourists, increased from thousands to millions in the study area between 2001 and 2020 and recorded the highest inflow in 2018 and 2019. The trend of domestic tourist inflow remained increasing and upward, while the inflow of international tourists was decreasing and downward during the study period. There was an overall growth in tourism during the study period in terms of the influx of tourists to the region.
