The Changing Nature of Modern Journalism and Artificial Intelligence (From 2020 to 2024)

Journalism has undergone significant changes. Technological advancements have simplified reporting, and concepts such as pop-up journalism and mobile journalism have become prominent. Immersive journalism, utilizing artificial and virtual intelligence, attracts the public with its content. Meanwhile, the role of the public editor is diminishing. Newsrooms are grappling with declining trust, shrinking audiences, and reduced advertising revenue. There is a lack of diversity in newsrooms, and reporters are increasingly practicing self-censorship when reporting on illegal activities. The primary objective is to explore recent global journalism trends. This paper reviews and analyzes articles written by journalists under the Research Fellowship program and published on Reuters’ website, focusing solely on the nature of journalistic work and technological aspects. It was found that newsrooms are evolving and embracing new technologies like AI.
