A Study on Malnutrition in Children, Women, and Elderly People

Nutrition is the process by which the body uses food to obtain energy and grow. Human nutrition involves absorbing and adapting to different physiological processes. It can lead to growth and development. However, malnutrition can result from differences in age, sex, height, and nutrient intake. Deficiencies can cause health problems, including marasmus, kwashiorkor, and stunting. Malnutrition can also impact reproductive health in girls. Nutrient intake is crucial during adolescence, a time of rapid growth. Poor nutrition can hinder growth, weaken muscles, and increase susceptibility to disease. Adolescent girls may experience anaemia, iodine deficiency, and vitamin A deficiency, which can cause night blindness and infections. In elderly people, malnutrition can lead to a weakened immune system, lean muscle mass, and calcium deficiency. Overweight in adolescents can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. A diet high in fast food and fried food can increase cholesterol levels and cause sleep apnoea, a condition where breathing stops and starts due to a high cholesterol level.
