Perception can be deceptive and illusory from any developmental perspective. It is more meaningful when directed toward the upliftment of the vulnerable gender in society, namely the girl child. Girls are subjected to various atrocities and stereotypical subjugation. They are often seen as the epitome of sacrifice in the quest for gender development. Education can serve as a key factor in improving the condition of girls in any part of the world. In a country like India, with various constitutional safeguards through fundamental rights, developmental schemes, and policies, the objective of gender development through education can be effectively monitored. The attitude of parents is especially important in promoting this ethos of development. Parents often prefer sons over daughters, even regarding basic or higher education. Various other factors also influence parental perceptions and consent for girls’ education, such as basic school facilities, distance to educational institutions, gender intolerance, and the safety of girls. The present study attempts to examine parents’ perceptions regarding the continuation of their daughters’ education, considering these factors. It is found that school facilities, as well as the age and education level of the parents, are decisive factors in the future of girls’ education.
