Present health and hygienic profile of the Kora Mudi tribe: a village-level study from Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal – Suman Kalyan Samanta, Kundan Ghosh – Any tribal society exists within a specific ecological setting. They share a common economy, traditional belief system, practices, attitudes, customs, values, norms, rituals, and psychosomatic characteristics related to health and disease. Various physical and socio-cultural factors of tribal life, along with the availability and accessibility of health care facilities, dietary habits, nutritional requirements, and immunization, may have different levels of impact on the maintenance of their health and hygiene. For disease treatment, they are mostly accustomed to traditional, indigenous, knowledge-based curative practices. Under these circumstances, understanding the health and hygiene conditions of tribal communities requires a holistic approach. In this paper, an attempt has been made to study the current reality regarding the maintenance of health and hygiene among the Kora Mudi tribals of Ronbonia village in Paschim Medinipur District of West Bengal by utilizing traditional social survey methods.
